2012 Summary of Art

Since I did the Improvement Meme, I also thought it'd be interesting to do this one, since 2012 is probably the year where it feels like I've devoted the most effort to actively trying to learn new things and improve!
It'd be nice to do one of these at the end of every year, I think!

I didn't necessarily choose my 'best' artworks to go here; rather, I choose things that represent that month's efforts... or something.

JANUARY
I probably did do at least *something*, but I can't find anything from that month! Perhaps I was just drawing in my physical sketchbook, or something?

FEBRUARY
This was when I decided to start doing things seriously, I think? I was also working on Miasmon at that point... designing the main characters and stuff.
I was slow to start, though; the image I chose is the only one in my gallery from that month.

MARCH
I was trying to draw faces better, trying to develop some kind of style. It's sort of annoying looking back at the four I chose to represent that month, because I feel like in some ways they're better than what I can do now!

APRIL
I did the MARDEK character portrait things! Those were the first time in years that I'd tried to do proper finished portrait things, and I feel I learned a great deal.

MAY
I didn't seem to do much, for whatever reason! I don't think I'd properly come back to deviantART yet by that point... and I was still working on Miasmon. Sigh, Miasmon! It should have been finished forever ago.

JUNE
I did a lot of Miasmon pixel art in June, but I also started doing proper painting studies from photos, which I'd never really tried before. Very useful!

JULY
I did a few Miasmon concept art drawings, and three elemental 'deity' picture things, which were perhaps my first original paintings including humans.

AUGUST
There isn't much from August! I probably didn't even draw the thing I chose for this month IN August, but that's when it was uploaded to my gallery, and I found it amusing. I suppose it does show off some different things that I tried!

SEPTEMBER
I did a whole lot in September, and had difficulty deciding what to choose, so I chose two different things! I was drawing wolves, and also working on my painting skills, trying different approaches. Both of the things I chose are boring from-reference studies, but they were valuable in their own right anyway.

OCTOBER
I didn't do much in October, but I included two different things again anyway. I was continuing with both painting and drawing, focusing on humans and trying to get back into dragons. I feel like I was getting a better feel for how to draw people!

NOVEMBER
Probably my most productive month ever! In terms of sketching, anyway; it was when I started my 'Digital Sketchbook' thing, and uploaded dozens of pages of that. It was hard to choose just one image to represent them all, so again I chose two things! I should really have included a nude woman or something, or a cervid, since I drew loads of those things, but oh well. Not enough space!

DECEMBER
Another relatively dry patch... I did continue with trying new things, like environments and more faces, but I lacked direction and did dragons and stuff too. Still, it's interesting comparing Emela's face there with the faces from earlier in the year.

So yes! Gasp. This was interesting to do and so on... though I wish I had more Finished Pieces and less concept/sketch stuff in my gallery! I aim to do more of those next year!
