Ugh, this took much longer than it should have due to problems with the motion tweens in Flash... Maybe I'll stick with Classic Tweens for the other ones, as much as it annoys me to not use the Latest Feature...
Anyway, Sparkpup is apparently the first Miasmon that I designed, all those many eons ago when I started developing this game! And by that I mean early last year. "I'll be done in a month!!", I naively thought, back then. Ha!1
Because it's the first one that I made, it was also the first one that I tried to make a sprite for... with really crude and embarrassing results! Which I've decided to include for the sake of amusement on the right here.
You might think that the better sprite - the one in the middle - was the result of months of improvement or something like that... but I think it was done like a day after the really bad one, and I was amazed by the massive jump in quality. o_O I suppose I'd just thought of a better approach?! Looking at generation III Pokemon sprites helped too.
I'm not fond of the name 'Sparkpup', because while 'spark' technically does mean something like "a small bit of fire or molten material", like the little bits that float out of fires or which are used for pyrotechnics or even in lighters, due to Pokemon, 'spark' is probably more commonly associated with electrical stuff.
"Cindog"... "Embark". Ha. Ha. Yes... "Embowwow". That's silly. I wanted something with 'pup' or 'puppy' in the name to show that this is a young form, like how Torchick has, well, chick in it. Maybe I'll think of something later. Or I'll use Embark because it's silly. Or Sparkpup for posterity. It's hard to suddenly change the name of something I've been familiar with for the better part of two years!
I don't really know what to say about this, aside from it being ADORABLE! (Just look at it! ^^) I will say that it certainly shows improvement, which should make you happy. As for names the name "Volthound" comes to mind (I'm assuming it doesn't change elements when it evolves?)
On a separate and unrelated note, I am curious as to when you plan to finish the 'blends' section for the new temperaments page. ( [link])
One last thing: For some reason, I am having trouble with the new Fighunter website. I don't really know what to say, except maybe there's something wrong with one of my flash players. Maybe you can help me out? I've been having trouble for a couple of days now. (Screenshot: [link])
Ooh, another lively animation. I like how it jumps, it certainly seems much, much more lively than the static sprite.
The sprite on the right seems like it'd fit right in with the ones from the Japanese Pokémon Green. XD I'd like to see more of these very early sprites if they do exist, it was quite funny. And I did think it took like motnhs! o.o That really is a giant leap forwards in term of quality, considering you did it in a single day!
When I think spark, I think of sparks of fire, like rubbing flint or sticks to lit a campfire sparks, hmm. It does seem weird for 'Spark' to be an electric tackle of some kind, it's not that intuitive of a name.
That said, I did kind of think sparkpup wasn't all that exciting of a name, since it was like two words combined... But then it's understandable that you can't just give each mon an amazing name and such, I doubt any game manages to do so. [Speaking of mon names, I heard that the previous translator of Pokémon suggested the names Scaribou and Phantomb for Stantler and Spiritomb rspectively, which to me seem like more interesting names than the final version, hmm.]
Puppyre? Pyre is maybe too intense though. Canisizzle? Maybe too Latin, so pretentious. >:[ Woofume? Just throwing out some ideas, anyway! o.o
But if you wanted to change the name, then I suppose it'd be better now, since you're doing so many revisions to the game already!
Also, do you intend to animate these Miasmon in some order? I'd be curious how long it'd take for you to catch up with the Miasmon to where you are with the plot, hmm.
And I tried to download the CS6 thing, but it asked me to download all these files, make this account, do this, do that, even though I probably wouldn't even get it to work anyway, and I should be studying for my exams now anyway, which I suppose I'll go around doing now! o.o
Sparkpup sounded sort of like 'sparkplug' to me, though that's not even appropriate because they're electric things! I seem to be preferring 'Embark' as a silly name now though because it is ember+bark and also a word in itself. Yes. Hilarious. And so on.
I'm doing these in roughly the order that they appear in the game! So next I'll do the three evolved forms of Protonculus, then Arph, Vampurr and Wrember, then Carminymph, Cyanymph, Fluffnugget and Vega...
Haha the old one has a weird charm to it, like the older Pokemon games. But the newer sprite does look fantastic! You did a wonderful job in your second approach. And I'm totally jealous of your animation skills. It's not something I find patience in practicing (though it's probably totally worth it).
In your game, will the sprites move throughout battles, like Pokemon Black (2) and White (2)? I definitely can't wait to see either way!
Oh and.... Hm Pupmber came to mind. Kinda outta of the blue for a name x/D like I tend to do.
